Job Description
Description The Estimator will be responsible for reviewing bid documents and requesting pricing for the purpose of preparing detailed cleanroom envelope and MEP construction estimates and bid proposals. This position is responsible for the preparation of budgets, bids, and rates. This role will interpret drawings, blueprints, and specifications, solicit contractors, perform take offs, write project scopes of work, and then communicate the project needs to the Project Team and technicians ensuring their understanding and the completeness of the scopes of work.
Major Areas Of Responsibilities Estimating & Preconstruction - Request, review, and evaluate bid packages.
- Analyze drawings, specifications, and construction documents to develop accurate time, cost, material, and labor estimates.
- Use historical data, crew rates, and productivity rates to forecast labor cost for self-performed scopes.
- Solicit and evaluate pricing from vendors and subcontractors.
- Provide value engineering options when appropriate.
- Prepare and compile complete, detailed estimates and bid proposals.
- Manage the RFI/RFP process and incorporate addendums as needed.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and site walk-throughs as needed.
Bid Management & Sales Support - Conduct timely follow-up on bids submitted.
- Attend scope review meetings with general contractors; clearly communicate scope and present company capabilities.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of Hodess construction capabilities and past project experience.
- Build and maintain relationships with general contractors, consultants, and architects to grow business opportunities.
- Strive to increase bid win percentage, project revenue, and overall gross profit year over year.
Project Handoff & Coordination - Upon award of contract, review scope of work and schedule.
- Coordinate with Project Manager, Project Coordinator, and Contract Administrator for seamless project transition.
- Participate in project kick-off meetings to support the operations team.
- Assist in vendor and subcontractor negotiations.
Relationship Management & Vendor Engagement - Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, vendors, subcontractors, and internal team members.
- Stay current on product innovations, vendor offerings, and discount structures.
- Help maintain an up-to-date directory of suppliers, subcontractors, and contractors.
General Responsibilities - Research and resolve questions that arise during estimating or bidding.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS: - Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Interior Design, Engineering, Finance, or related discipline
- 2-5 years of Project Management or Estimating role in the construction industry
- OSHA 30
- Ability to work with MS Office, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc. and construction management software.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Required - Strong understanding of construction operations, practices, and scheduling strategies
- Familiarity with architectural drawings, specifications, and construction documents
- Basic working knowledge of general construction, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems
- Ability to apply technical knowledge to realistic project timelines and budgets
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Highly organized and detail-oriented
- Capable of managing multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
- Strong time management skills with a high sense of urgency
- Able to take ownership and responsibility for results
- Demonstrate leadership and coordination skills across projects and teams
